Sigma Kappa

Sigma Kappa provides valuable leadership development opportunities to its members. As an organization Sigma Kappa encourages our members to be involved in at least one extracurricular activity during their collegiate experience. Because of this focus on involvement outside of Sigma Kappa, our sisters are able to engage with the campus and community in ways that are important to them.

Sisterhood Events:

The main sisterhood event is a retreat held every semester! Last semester, we embarked on a retreat that took us camping at a retreat center outside of Ocala. Here we went paddle boating, engaged in different sporting activities, and made s’mores by a large campfire! It was our first overnight retreat and was a ton of fun! Previously, we have had retreats at the zoo and at Tree-Upmh!, the ropes course through the trees!

On top of retreats, smaller events are held throughout the semester that give sisters the opportunity to bond! This upcoming semester has a lot planned and will be a ton of fun!

Scholarship Events:

Scholarship events include a scholarship brunch/banquet each semester, bi-weekly academic rewards at chapter, study sessions, and finals week incentives such as making survival kits or hosting stress relieving activities in chapter!

Philanthropic Events:

Since one of our values is service, we hold and participate in many philanthropic events throughout the semester that support not only our own causes, but also the philanthropies of other organizations in the community!

This semester, on October 26th, Sigma Kappa will be hosting the second annual Ultra Violet Music Awards! In this event, other organizations will make a music video which will be shown at the event and they will also have a live performance. All proceeds raised at the UVMAs will be given to the Sigma Kappa Foundation which raises money for Alzheimer's research and gives scholarships and leadership opportunities to collegiate women.

One of Sigma Kappa's philanthropies is gerontology with a focus on Alzheimer's research. This semester we will be going to volunteer at Oaks at Riverview Senior Center. At the senior center, we will be going to help with events that the center is hosting which could be anything from bingo, spring dances, dinners, or technology classes.

On November 4th, Sigma Kappa will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in downtown Tampa. Last year, we raised 14,000 dollars and the goal for this year is to raise 15,000 dollars!

Social Events:

We have many social planned throughout the year! Past social events include laser tag, bowling, scavenger hunts at the zoo, etc. We also have formal and semi formal, which are banquet style events that include all things food, dancing, and fun!

Alumna Events:
